Incredible India

India Tour Packages by regions and explore diverse culture, heritage and natural wonders of the country

Traveling to India for the first time can give a culture shock to any, but if as an elderly it’s your first time in India, make sure you go through below tips:

  1. Choose a flight wisely - Try booking flights that are easy on you. If traveling long haul, make sure you have a stopover to provide you enough relaxation before you head off to board another. Also with chances of regional jet lag, we recommend a day before you tour actually starts to get ample rest.
  2. Plan well - It is better to go for a customised tour option if you can spend well. This will save you from the hassle of catching up with the rest of the group members and you will be at your ease with exclusive private transfers and other such arrangements. If you have to choose a group tour, make sure to check with the tour operator if it is suitable for the elder people and what kind of activities are involved. Any chances of strenuous activities or ones you think aren’t suitable to your liking should be opted out or asked to be replaced with.
  3. Plan ahead - It is imperative that you plan ahead and well. You should know where you will be staying and how long. If possible, leave behind a copy of this with the people on your emergency contact list. We recommend that you book your tour with a trusted travel operator and even leave behind their contact numbers while also adding it to your speed dial list. Book your transfers in advance and possibly with the same tour operator as of the tour if arriving late in the night. Trust us, this will save you from a lot of hassles.
  4. Ask for Value Added Services - Most of the airlines, hotels and tour operators offer value added services to senior citizens, be it wheelchair assistance, special seats, ground floor or noise free rooms or concession on fare, etc. Ask politely but don’t insist too hard.
  5. Carry your essentials - Although most of the cities have good pharmacies, but to stay out of trouble, it is better you pack your essentials before heading off on a trip. From toilet paper, a refillable water bottle, medication and special  needs to insect repellant and maybe a mini cooling box for your meds. Pack them well and keep handy.
  6. Food - Food in India is so diverse that after every 300 kilometer you will have something new to taste, but this also calls for intolerance of food items in many, especially the first time visitors. We all have heard about ‘Delhi Belly’. It is better to let your tour planner know beforehand of your allergies and preferences, if any, to avoid any difficult situation.
  7. Care for your valuables - It is strongly recommended to not carry your valuables on a trip, not even a lot of cash. If you must, read the custom rules beforehand or check with your tour operator and rent a safe deposit locker at a trusted place/hotel to keep it. Not only this, never leave your passport behind when going out. Make sure your visa is valid till the date of your extended travel, if planning later on.
  8. Travel with a family member - We recommend elder people to travel with another family member, probably younger for the ease of a lot of things. From standing in queues to attend in case of emergency, things become easier.
  9. No alms to beggars - Restrain yourself from offering alms to the beggars, especially ignore women with kids sleeping. This will not only save you from several others approaching you for more money but also discourage the whole racket of trafficking women and children as beggars.
  10. Respect Cultural Exchange - For first time visitors, India has a lot to keep them surprised for days. During any such incidents, we expect the visitors to be respectful towards the sentiments of the locals and not bad mouth the situation or even worse, argue with a local. India is a developing nation and still a lot of things and sentiments have been transformed in their own pace, simple understanding can save all from grave scenarios.
  11. Stay Vigilant - The last but most important tip, stay vigilant. Even if you are with a bunch of known people, in a good restaurant or during transportation, be aware of your surroundings. For anything odd that may seem to you, report to your leader, hotel manager, police officer or any trustworthy person around you. Staying cautious and vigilant will not only save you from any kind of abuse but also can curb any chances of bigger mishap.
